India’s star spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, is poised to reunite with the team during day four of the third Test against England after departing midway due to a family emergency, as stated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The BCCI announced Ashwin’s return, affirming his dedication to contributing to the team’s endeavors in the ongoing Test match in Rajkot. Despite his absence on day three, Ashwin will be ready to bowl whenever required.

Under the game’s playing conditions, umpires have the discretion to waive the requirement for a player to spend as much time on the field as they were off it before bowling, provided the absence was due to “wholly acceptable reasons,” excluding illness or internal injury.

Having left the match on day two after reaching the milestone of 500 Test wickets, Ashwin, aged 37, joins the elite club of bowlers achieving this feat, following in the footsteps of Anil Kumble as the second Indian to do so.

Despite Ashwin’s absence, India’s bowlers, led by Mohammed Siraj, excelled, bowling England out for 319 and securing a substantial lead of 126 runs. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, alongside Siraj, contributed with wickets, compensating for Ashwin’s temporary withdrawal.

With the series leveled at 1-1 after India’s victory in the second match following England’s win in the opener, Ashwin’s return adds depth and experience to India’s bowling arsenal.
