The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will now function directly under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), following a transfer of authority from the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) to the Cabinet Division, as reported on Monday.

As per the latest notification, the PCB will no longer fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of IPC and will instead be accountable directly to the PMO. Additionally, the IPC Secretary will no longer hold a position on the PCB’s Board of Governors.

This development coincided with the election of Mohsin Naqvi as the new PCB chairman, who secured his position unopposed during elections held at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. Naqvi is set to lead the PCB for a three-year term.

The transition follows the resignation of Zaka Ashraf as PCB chairman, which prompted caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar to appoint Shah Khawar as the election commissioner of the Cricket Board.

Zaka Ashraf, after serving as PCB Management Committee chairman for seven months, stepped down from his position in January. Citing a commitment to the improvement of Pakistan cricket, Ashraf expressed his frustration with the prevailing working conditions and emphasized that the appointment of a new chairman should not solely be the prerogative of the prime minister.
