LAHORE: Wicketkeeper-batsman Haseebullah Khan has been named as the replacement for Azam Khan in Pakistan’s squad for the ongoing five-match T20I series against New Zealand.

“The national selection committee has introduced wicketkeeper-batsman Haseebullah as the substitute player for Azam Khan, who has been sidelined from the T20I series against New Zealand due to a tear in his right calf muscle,” announced PCB in a brief press release.

Haseebullah, aged 21, will join the Pakistan team after the conclusion of the third T20I and will be eligible for selection in the remaining two T20Is, set to be held in Lahore on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

The 21-year-old Haseebullah made his lone T20I appearance against New Zealand earlier this year. Azam Khan, who initially missed the first T20I due to discomfort in his right knee and calf muscle, was subsequently ruled out of the entire series on Saturday.

“Azam Khan has been advised a 10-day rest following radiology reports confirming a Grade One tear of his right calf muscle,” stated PCB.

“As a result, Azam will not be able to participate in the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand, which concludes in Lahore on April 27,” the statement continued.

The five-match series between Pakistan and New Zealand is currently leveled at 1-1 following Mark Chapman’s impressive innings, which led the visitors to a comfortable seven-wicket victory in the third T20I.
