Fortune Barisal, a franchise in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), has refuted rumors surrounding all-rounder Shoaib Malik’s alleged involvement in match-fixing. The team’s owner, Mizanur Rahaman, dismissed the speculations, clarifying that Malik’s departure from the BPL was attributed to personal reasons.

In a video message, Rahaman affirmed, “The news about Malik’s involvement in match-fixing is fake. Malik is a good cricketer, and his performance for our side was really impressive.” He also added that Malik left Bangladesh for Dubai a couple of days ago and extended his stay until February 5 due to personal reasons, leading to the termination of his contract with the franchise.

Despite terminating the contract, Barisal expressed willingness to acquire Malik’s services in the future. Multiple news outlets had reported allegations of match-fixing against Malik, citing three no-balls bowled in a single over during a recent BPL match.

Shoaib Malik, a seasoned cricketer with over 24 years in international cricket, recently announced his third marriage to actor Sana Javed. The 41-year-old, known for his contributions to Pakistan cricket, remains active at the top level, having made his debut in October 1999 against West Indies.

In his illustrious career, Malik played 287 ODIs, scoring 7534 runs at an average of 34.55 and taking 158 wickets. His Test career included 35 matches, with a highest score of 245 against England in 2015, and he also took 32 wickets. In T20Is, Malik accumulated 2435 runs at an average of 31.21, with a strike rate of 125.64, and claimed 28 wickets in 49 innings.
