The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expanded its national women’s selection committee to seven members following a decision by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. This move comes after Pakistan’s recent 3-0 ODI series loss to West Indies at home.

According to a PCB announcement on Thursday, the reconstituted selection committee includes former Pakistan internationals Asmavia Iqbal and Marina Iqbal, along with Abdul Razzaq and Asad Shafiq from the men’s national selection committee, and former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Batool Fatima. The head coach and captain, currently Mohtashim Rasheed and Nida Dar, respectively, will also serve on the seven-member panel. Former fast bowler Saleem Jaffar is no longer part of the committee.

The primary task for the new selection committee will be to finalize the squad for Pakistan’s upcoming tour of England, featuring three T20Is and three ODIs scheduled from May 11 to 29. All three ODIs are part of the ICC ODI Women’s Championship 2022-25.

Pakistan is currently ranked fifth on the women’s championship table with eight wins and 13 losses in 21 ODIs. They aim to secure a spot in the 2025 ODI Women’s World Cup, with the top five teams from the championship, along with hosts India, earning direct qualification.

Following a challenging ODI series against West Indies, Pakistan will now face them in a five-match T20I series starting on April 26, to be held in Karachi. Subsequently, they will head to England, with the first T20I scheduled for May 11 in Birmingham.
