KARACHI: The left-arm spinner Imad Wasim of Islamabad United has made an indelible mark in the annals of Pakistan Super League (PSL) history by becoming the first bowler to achieve a five-wicket haul in the tournament’s final.

Imad Wasim showcased a stellar performance for United in the highly anticipated final against the defending champions, Multan Sultans, registering outstanding figures of 5/23 in his allotted four overs.

His remarkable bowling effort played a pivotal role in restricting the Sultans to 159/9 in their stipulated quota of overs.

Imad commenced his spell in style by dismissing the in-form opener Yasir Khan (6) in the third delivery of his first over. Despite being hit for a six by David Willey (6), Imad quickly retaliated by dismissing him on the very next delivery.

After conceding just six runs in his following over, Imad Wasim returned to the attack in the 12th over at the insistence of Shadab Khan. He made an immediate impact by removing the dangerous batsman Johnson Charles (4).

In his final over, Imad Wasim showcased his prowess, claiming the crucial wickets of Khushdil Shah (11) and Chris Jordan (0), completing his five-wicket haul. The dismissal of Abbas Afridi via run-out in the same over further solidified United’s dominance, with the Sultans struggling at 127/9 in 17 overs.

Imad Wasim’s pivotal role for Islamabad United throughout the tournament underscores his status as one of their key players. He had previously played a match-winning role against Multan Sultans in the group stage, securing United’s spot in the PSL 9 Playoffs.

His exceptional performances continued in the Eliminator matches, where he dismantled Quetta Gladiators with figures of 3/12 before playing a crucial innings of 59 runs in the second Eliminator against Peshawar Zalmi.
