RAWALPINDI: Islamabad United’s Naseem Shah has been penalized 10 per cent of his match fee by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 encounter against Multan Sultans.

The renowned fast bowler was penalized for a level 1 infraction of the PSL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during Islamabad United’s final group match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Sunday.

Naseem had forcefully dislodged the stumps after the final ball of Multan Sultans’ innings, leading to him being charged with violating Article 2.2, which pertains to the misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings.

As Naseem admitted guilt to the charge and accepted the penalties proposed by match referee Roshan Mahanama, there was no requirement for a formal hearing.

The infraction was flagged by on-field umpires Ruchira Palliyaguruge and Muhammad Asif. Meanwhile, in a separate incident during the same match, Multan Sultans incurred a penalty for maintaining a slow over-rate.

Multan Sultans were found to be one over short of their target by match referee Roshan Mahanama, who factored in time allowances before reaching the decision.

Consequently, and in accordance with Article 2.22 of the HBL PSL Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, each player was fined 10 per cent of their match fee.

Multan Sultans suffered a narrow three-wicket loss against Islamabad United, with Imad Wasim’s heroics sealing victory with a boundary and a maximum off the last two deliveries, chasing down the highest total in PSL 9.
