Rain Halts First Pakistan-New Zealand T20I Showdown

RAWALPINDI: The inaugural T20I clash of the five-game showdown between Pakistan and New Zealand has been interrupted by relentless rainfall at the Pindi Cricket Stadium here on Thursday.

Merely a fleeting glimpse of action graced the picturesque Pindi Cricket Stadium as the heavens opened up again after Shaheen Shah Afridi dismantled Tim Robinson with a masterful in-swinger, delivering only two balls.

As the rain resumed its adamant descent, the on-field umpires convened with the players, ultimately deciding to terminate proceedings for the day.

The much-anticipated toss between Pakistan and New Zealand was also delayed by approximately half an hour. New Zealand’s skipper Michael Bracewell emerged victorious in the coin toss and opted to bat first. However, before the players could delve into the action, the rain made a comeback, further prolonging the delay.

The subsequent downpour intensified, casting doubts on the possibility of any play at all.

Despite the valiant efforts of the ground staff, the rain persisted, dashing hopes of even a truncated five-over encounter between Pakistan and New Zealand.
