India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, has voiced his excitement about the prospect of facing Pakistan in a Test series overseas, describing it as “awesome.” Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, co-hosted by Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan, Rohit expressed his desire for India and Pakistan to resume regular bilateral cricket, a tradition halted since Pakistan’s visit to India in 2012-13.

Responding to Vaughan’s query regarding the importance of India-Pakistan Tests for the health of the format, Rohit emphasized his belief in the significance of such contests. Despite the political complexities hindering series between the two nations for almost two decades, Rohit recalled Pakistan’s last visit to India in 2007 and acknowledged the competitive edge they bring.

Rohit praised Pakistan’s Test prowess, particularly highlighting their formidable bowling lineup, expressing eagerness for a challenging contest, especially in overseas conditions. While efforts have been made to resume bilateral cricket, Rohit’s remarks mark a significant public opinion within Indian cricket.

Acknowledging the administrative and political hurdles, Rohit reiterated his desire for regular contests, emphasizing the pure cricketing aspect and the excitement of the competition between bat and ball. With Rohit’s stance, the prospect of India-Pakistan Tests outside ICC tournaments gains renewed attention, emphasizing the love for the game and the desire for competitive cricket above all else.
