Amid Mayank Yadav’s departure from the field after bowling just one over against Gujarat Titans in Lucknow on Sunday, Krunal Pandya emerged as a pivotal figure in securing Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) historic win over Titans.

Mayank exited the game with concerns over his pace and conceded three boundaries in the fourth over of Gujarat Titans’ unsuccessful chase of LSG’s 163 for 5.

Stepping up in Mayank’s absence, Krunal Pandya played a crucial role, denting Titans’ middle order with figures of 3 for 11 in his four overs. Speaking about Mayank’s condition, Krunal expressed relief, stating, “I don’t know what is happening but I did have a brief couple of seconds’ chat – he seemed okay, which was quite a relief for us.”

Mayank had been a standout fast bowler for LSG in the tournament so far, exhibiting extreme pace and claiming combined returns of 6 for 41 from his two previous games.

Acknowledging Mayank’s talent, Krunal remarked, “A bright prospect, I’d been watching him for the last two years. He used to bowl brilliantly in the nets.”

In Sunday night’s game, Krunal proved instrumental in disrupting Titans’ chase. After being introduced in the seventh over, he conceded just two runs in his first over and clinched two wickets in the following over. Despite giving away four runs in his next over, he managed to secure the wicket of Darshan Nalkande.

Highlighting his strategy against the left-hand batter, Sai Sudharsan, Krunal explained, “I like to know the batsman’s strengths and weaknesses and bowl accordingly. At the end of the day, I back my strength and I had the longer side [of the boundary on the leg side]. So I made sure that if I’m going to get hit, I’ll get hit over deep midwicket, not off side.”
