As South Africa gears up to host the 15th edition of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, the focus shifts to the budding talents of the cricketing world with just 30 days remaining until the tournament kicks off on January 19. The schedule, unveiled earlier this month, promises 41 matches spread across 24 days in five cities—Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Potchefstroom, East London, and Benoni, the chosen venue for the semi-finals and final.

This prestigious event, renowned for catapulting the careers of cricket icons, will introduce the most exciting young talents onto the global stage. In addition to providing a platform for emerging players, the 15th edition aims to celebrate future generations through engaging initiatives with schoolchildren in the host provinces. Partnering with Cricket South Africa, the ICC will offer thousands of schoolchildren the opportunity to attend matches, participate as flag bearers and anthem kids, and engage in cricket clinics with the participating teams. These initiatives form part of the Cricket 4 Good program, the ICC’s global community outreach effort, including educational workshops supported by UNICEF.

The coveted U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup will also embark on a Trophy Tour, visiting schools in the four provinces, allowing young fans to get close to the prestigious prize. All 41 matches throughout the tournament will be free to enter, fostering a festival atmosphere for fans and families to witness the best young cricket players in action.

ICC Head of Events Chris Tetley expressed excitement about placing schoolchildren at the forefront of the event, emphasizing the celebration of new generations in the world of cricket. Reflecting on the anticipation, Dewald Brevis, Player of the Tournament from the 2022 edition, emphasized the tournament’s significance as a launching pad for young players’ careers. He predicted an exhibition of talent from all participating nations, marking a thrilling phase of fearless cricket.
