LAHORE: Shamyl Hussain, Pakistan’s emerging opening batter, delivered a powerful response to his critics with a scintillating half century during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11 clash between Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings on Friday.

Representing Quetta, the 21 year old lit up the contest with a blistering 52 off just 24 balls, smashing five fours and four sixes. His aggressive innings set the tone for a challenging run chase, but despite his efforts, the Gladiators narrowly fell short by 14 runs in a tightly fought encounter.

Speaking after the match, Shamyl addressed the growing scrutiny surrounding his performances and made it clear that outside opinions will not dictate his approach.

“As a cricketer, we are always trying to improve. No one has a perfect technique, especially early in their career you learn gradually,” he said.

Reflecting on the sudden criticism, he added:
“When I was performing in domestic cricket, no one questioned my batting. Now, after a couple of failures, it suddenly becomes a problem.”

The left handed opener emphasized the importance of self-assessment over public opinion, noting how quickly perceptions can change in professional sport.

“Public opinion keeps changing. My job is to assess myself and understand what is working. If something won’t work going forward, I’ll change it, but if it is working, I’ll stick with it,” he explained.

Shamyl also highlighted the mental toughness required to succeed at the highest level, insisting that players must stay focused despite external pressure.

“I cannot change my batting based on what people say. I didn’t reach here because of them, and I won’t be dropped because of them. My focus is on improving myself and moving forward,” he concluded.

Shamyl Hussain recently made his international debut for Pakistan in the ODI series against Bangladesh national cricket team. However, he had a modest start, scoring just 10 runs across two matches.

Despite the slow beginning, his latest PSL performance signals strong intent and suggests that the young opener is ready to silence doubters with his bat.
