The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a massive cash reward of INR 131 crore for the Indian squad following their historic title defense in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
India created history by defeating the New Zealand national cricket team in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, successfully retaining the T20 World Cup and becoming the first team to win the tournament three times.
The victory also marked another milestone, as India became the first nation to win back-to-back men’s T20 World Cups, breaking a long-standing trend where defending champions had previously failed even to reach the final.
While the BCCI did not outline the exact distribution of the prize money, the reward is expected to be shared among the players, coaching staff and selectors.
In an official statement, the board congratulated everyone involved in the achievement.
“The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future,” the BCCI said.
India produced a commanding display in the final, posting a huge 255 for 5 thanks to half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan.
In reply, New Zealand’s chase was dismantled by India’s bowling attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah, who delivered a match-winning spell of 4 for 15 in four overs, helping India secure a 96 run victory.
The newly announced reward exceeds the INR 125 crore bonus distributed after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup triumph. On that occasion, each of the 15 players received INR 5 crore, while members of the coaching staff were awarded INR 2.5 crore each.
The five member senior selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, was also rewarded with INR 1 crore per member.
