Pakistan and Sri Lanka are gearing up for a crucial three-match T20I series in January, with both cricket boards close to finalising the schedule. The series is part of the teams’ preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

According to reports, the matches are likely to be held from January 8 to 12, with all three fixtures scheduled at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
The 2026 T20 World Cup will take place from February 7 to March 8 across India and Sri Lanka. Under the Hybrid Model, Pakistan will play their entire campaign on Sri Lankan soil — a system designed to ensure Pakistan and India do not tour each other during ICC events, instead meeting at neutral venues.
Sources indicate that officials from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) remained in regular contact while finalising the short series, which is now reportedly confirmed.
The series will serve as vital preparation for Pakistan, offering match practice in similar conditions to those expected during the World Cup. It will also help the team fine-tune combinations and adapt to the playing surfaces they will encounter in February.
All matches have been placed in Dambulla due to ongoing renovation work at R. Premadasa Stadium (Colombo) and Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, both undergoing upgrades ahead of the mega event. For the same reason, Sri Lanka Cricket has postponed the sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), originally planned for November–December.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka are currently in Pakistan for the ongoing T20I tri-series, where they remain in a tight battle for a spot in the final. Pakistan have already qualified, while Sri Lanka need a big win in their last group match to stay in contention. Zimbabwe sit second with one win from four matches and a net run rate of -0.522, while Sri Lanka trail with an NRR of 1.324.
