LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially parted ways with Muhammad Wasim, ending his tenure as the head coach of the national women’s team following a disappointing campaign at the 2025 Women’s World Cup.

The announcement was made through an official PCB press release on Monday, confirming that the search for a new head coach is already in progress.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the completion of Mohammad Wasim’s tenure as Head Coach of the Pakistan National Women’s Cricket Team,” the statement read.

“The process to appoint a new head coach is currently underway, and the announcement regarding his successor will be made in due course,” it added.

Wasim’s departure follows a winless World Cup campaign, where Pakistan finished at the bottom of the points table. The team lost four out of seven matches, while the remaining three were abandoned due to rain — marking one of their most underwhelming tournament performances in recent years.

In the wake of the early exit, speculation had been mounting that the PCB was planning a major overhaul of the women’s coaching setup to rebuild the structure ahead of upcoming international fixtures.

Reaffirming its vision for women’s cricket, the PCB emphasized its long-term commitment to strengthening the game and providing better opportunities for growth.

“The PCB remains committed to strengthening women’s cricket in Pakistan and ensuring the team receives the best possible support to achieve continued success on the international stage,” the board’s statement added.

Muhammad Wasim, a former cricketer and selector, had been appointed as head coach of the women’s national team ahead of the ACC Women’s tournament, with hopes of revitalizing the squad. However, the recent results prompted the PCB to seek fresh leadership to steer the team forward.

The PCB is expected to announce the new head coach in the coming weeks as Pakistan looks to rebuild and prepare for future international challenges.
