Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has once again found himself at the center of attention — this time for his tongue-in-cheek video “apology” to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after receiving a legal notice over alleged breaches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise agreement.

The PCB had accused Tareen of violating several clauses of the 10-year contract, demanding a public apology and retraction of his critical remarks about the league’s management. The board also warned of serious consequences — including possible termination of the franchise’s contract and Tareen’s blacklisting from the PSL.

In response, Tareen released a video across his social media platforms that blended compliance with biting irony. While acknowledging receipt of the notice, he used the opportunity to take fresh jabs at the PCB’s handling of the situation and its overall management style.

“I didn’t receive a single call, message, email, or invitation to meet and sort things out,” Tareen said in the video. “Instead, I was served a legal notice. If you were more competent, you’d know these matters aren’t handled this way.”

Tareen accused the PCB of being run by “yes-men” and said the league’s leadership had grown intolerant of criticism.

“The PSL belongs to the fans and to all of Pakistan, not just a handful of people currently running it,” he added.

Despite claiming his legal team found no grounds to apologize, Tareen said he would still do so — though clearly with heavy sarcasm — “because I want the PSL to improve.”

His “apology” was filled with mock praise and satirical undertones. He apologized for criticizing the PSL opening ceremony, jokingly calling it “amazing” and lauding the “exceptional lip-syncing performances.” He then quipped that expecting the event to start and finish on time or have a working microphone might have been “asking too much.”

Tareen even addressed the minor complaints listed in the PCB’s notice, mock-apologizing for being ten minutes late to a Zoom meeting and for his comments about the league’s logistical mishaps, such as players being split between different hotels.

The video ended dramatically, with Tareen tearing up the legal notice on camera.

“So, I hope you like my apology video,” he said, closing the clip with a smirk.

The bold, sarcastic response has since gone viral, dividing opinion among fans and officials alike. Supporters hailed Tareen for calling out what they see as inefficiency and arrogance within the PCB, while critics accused him of mocking the league’s governing body and crossing professional boundaries.
