MIRPUR: Pakistan’s pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi has set a clear objective for the national side securing a place in the ICC World Test Championship Final emphasizing that consistency throughout a demanding Test calendar will be crucial.

Speaking ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming series against Bangladesh national cricket team, the left-arm fast bowler highlighted the importance of preparation, adaptability, and sustained performance in what he described as a long and challenging Test cycle.

“We are looking forward to the challenge of the Test series. Tests are very important for us, and this is a long Test season, perhaps for the first time like this. We are fully prepared and ready to give our best,” Afridi said.

Pakistan are scheduled to play a two-match Test series in Bangladesh, with the first Test set to take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium from May 8 to 12, followed by the second match in Sylhet from May 16 to 20.

Afridi acknowledged the advantage teams enjoy in home conditions but stressed that execution on the field ultimately determines success in Test cricket.

“Every team is strong in its home conditions, but what matters most is how well you prepare and execute. We hope the conditions will suit us, and we aim to play excellent cricket,” he added.

The fast bowler also underlined Pakistan’s broader ambitions in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle, making it clear that the team’s focus extends beyond just one series.

“Our goal is not limited to this series. We are focused on the World Test Championship, and our target is to reach the final. To achieve that, we must deliver consistent performances,” he stated.

Looking ahead, Afridi pointed out the potential challenge of spin-friendly conditions in Bangladesh but expressed confidence in Pakistan’s preparation.

“Bangladesh have performed well on spin tracks, and every team uses home advantage. We have prepared for both spin-friendly surfaces and green pitches, so we are ready for any challenge,” he concluded.
