ROME: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a major step towards global cricket development by signing a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Italian Cricket Federation (FCRI) on Friday, aimed at promoting and strengthening cricket across Italy.
The MoU was signed by PCB Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sumair Ahmad Syed and FCRI President Madame Maria Lorena Haz Paz, marking a significant move to support both men’s and women’s cricket in the European nation.
In an official statement, the PCB said:
“Under this strategic partnership, both organisations will collaborate to support the development of men’s and women’s cricket in Italy, following the Italian national team’s recent qualification for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.”
The agreement sets out a comprehensive framework focusing on technical growth, structural improvements, and enhanced competitive opportunities.
Key Areas of Collaboration
- Exchange of technical expertise and coaching knowledge
- Joint training and development programmes
- Conducting workshops, seminars, and friendly matches
- Organising bilateral tournaments at multiple levels
- Infrastructure enhancement to grow cricket facilities in Italy
- Youth development initiatives across the country
On the occasion, PCB COO Sumair Ahmad Syed expressed the board’s commitment to contributing to the sport’s global expansion.
“This partnership represents an important opportunity to strengthen sporting and cultural ties between Pakistan and Italy,” he said.
FCRI President Maria Lorena Haz Paz also praised the collaboration, noting that the partnership aligns with Italy’s long-term cricket development strategy.
“FCRI is in the process of securing additional bilateral partnerships with foreign cricket boards to further accelerate the sport’s development in the country,” she added.
Italy’s Rising Cricket Journey
Italy’s men’s team is set to feature for the first time in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, a 20-team event.
They earned qualification in July this year after an impressive run in the European qualifiers under the leadership of Joe Burns, the former Australian opening batter.
