India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from a Sydney hospital after suffering a spleen laceration during the third One-Day International (ODI) against Australia on October 25.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Saturday that Iyer is now “stable and recovering well” following a minor procedure to control internal bleeding. He will remain in Sydney for a few more days under medical observation before flying back to India, once doctors declare him fit to travel.

“The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure,”
said BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia in an official statement.

He further added that the BCCI medical team, in coordination with specialists in both Sydney and India, are “pleased with his recovery.”

The 30-year-old cricketer was treated by Dr Koroush Haghighi and his medical team in Sydney, with assistance from Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala—a senior consultant with the BCCI medical unit.

Iyer’s injury occurred while taking a diving catch to dismiss Alex Carey during the Sydney ODI. Moments later, he was seen clutching his rib cage in visible discomfort before receiving on-field treatment and being taken to the hospital.

Subsequent scans revealed internal bleeding caused by a spleen laceration, which required ICU observation. Thankfully, quick medical attention helped prevent any serious complications.

Despite the injury setback, India finished the match strongly, claiming a nine-wicket win in the final ODI—though Australia clinched the series 2–1. The focus now shifts to the ongoing T20I series, where India currently trails 1–0.

As fans await further updates, the entire cricket community has extended wishes for Iyer’s speedy recovery and safe return home.
