Pakistan and India are all set to clash in the highly anticipated ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium this Sunday. The showdown carries extra weight as the Green Shirts aim to settle scores after suffering two defeats against their arch-rivals earlier in the tournament.

While Pakistan’s bowling attack has been exceptional throughout the Asia Cup, their batting unit continues to raise concerns, particularly the form of opener Saim Ayub. The 24-year-old left-hander has endured a torrid run with the bat, scoring just 23 runs across six innings at a disappointing average of 3.83 and a strike rate of 85.18.

Ayub’s struggles were most evident during the group stage, where he was dismissed for a duck in all three matches against Oman, India, and the United Arab Emirates. Although he briefly showed signs of revival with a 17-ball 21 against India in the Super Four clash, inconsistency soon returned as he managed only two runs against Sri Lanka before registering yet another duck against Bangladesh in the virtual semi-final.

This slump has sparked debate over his place in the playing XI for the grand finale. Addressing the issue in his pre-match press conference, Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha came to the youngster’s defense, stressing the importance of backing a player of Ayub’s potential.

“Saim Ayub is the kind of player who can serve Pakistan cricket for the next decade. It’s crucial to stand by such individuals until there’s an absolute need for change,” Agha remarked.

The captain further highlighted Ayub’s all-round contributions, pointing out his handy bowling spells and sharp fielding efforts that have added value to the team despite his batting woes.

“Yes, he has not delivered with the bat, but he has made an impact in every other department. I have complete faith that he can rise to the occasion and play a big knock in the final,” Agha added with confidence.

With Pakistan chasing redemption and India looking to maintain their dominance, all eyes will be on Saim Ayub to see if he can finally silence his critics on the biggest stage of the tournament.
