Ramiz Raja Expresses Concerns Over Saim Ayub’s Form and Pakistan’s Pace Attack

Former Pakistan Test cricketer Ramiz Raja has voiced apprehensions regarding the performance of opening batsman Saim Ayub and the pace bowlers in the ongoing Ireland series.

Addressing his audience on his YouTube channel, Ramiz Raja expressed doubts about Saim Ayub’s consistency in the opening position for the Men in Green, emphasizing the importance of stability and reliability at the top of the batting order.

“I don’t believe Saim Ayub provides the necessary security; while he exhibits flashes of brilliance, if he fails to score 50 off 30 balls, disrupting the opening partnership of Rizwan and Babar doesn’t seem logical,” remarked Raja.

Concerning Pakistan’s bowling unit’s lackluster display in the Ireland series, he highlighted the significant milestone of conceding 200 runs against Ireland, citing it as a cause for concern ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

“Our bowlers conceded 200 runs against Ireland, indicating a lag in performance. If they had capitalized on the chances provided by Rizwan and Zaman, Pakistan’s pursuit would have been much tougher,” expressed Ramiz Raja.

According to him, Pakistan’s pace bowlers have been grappling with inconsistency since the previous year’s World Cup in India, which poses challenges for the team’s future endeavors.

“The Pakistani pace bowlers’ inability to maintain consistency is troubling. Pakistan’s strength and success lie in its bowling lineup, particularly the pacers, but they have been struggling since last year’s World Cup in India. A sporadic performance of two good deliveries followed by three bad ones exacerbates the situation,” he added.

Despite Pakistan securing victory in the second game of the three-match T20 series against Ireland, the bowlers conceded 193 runs and managed to secure seven wickets.

With the series tied at one win apiece, Ireland clinching the first match, the stakes remain high for both teams.
