Zimbabwe clinched a consolation win in the fifth T20I against Bangladesh, thanks to a stellar all-round performance from Brian Bennett and an unbeaten 72 by Sikandar Raza. Their eight-wicket victory narrowed the series margin to 4-1.

Bennett dominated both powerplays, contributing a quickfire 70 with the bat and taking two crucial wickets during Bangladesh’s powerplay, finishing with figures of 2-20. Raza’s composed innings marked his first half-century of the tour after enduring four low scores previously.

Despite Mahmudullah’s resilient 54, which steadied Bangladesh after an early slump to 15 for 3, Zimbabwe’s bowling attack, led by Bennett and Blessing Muzarabani, kept the home side in check. Mahmudullah’s partnership with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who contributed 36, provided some stability, but Zimbabwe’s bowlers, notably in the initial overs where they bowled two maiden overs, limited Bangladesh’s momentum.

Bennett Strikes Early

During the powerplay, Bennett and Muzarabani applied pressure on Bangladesh’s batting lineup. Muzarabani induced a top-edged slog from Tanzid Hossain in the second over, while Bennett dismissed Soumya Sarkar and Towhid Hridoy in successive overs. Sarkar’s dismissal came from a dab to point, caught easily by Sean Willams, while Hridoy fell caught behind, misjudging the bounce as he attempted a square cut. Bennett and Muzarabani’s disciplined bowling, including two maiden overs, restricted Bangladesh to 15 for 3 by the fifth over.
